Sonali Doshi is a graduate in B.A, Lit from University of Madras. She is an environmentalist, entrepreneur and social worker with many years of experience. Her skills span across management, retail, business development, marketing, and start-ups. She is the first person in Bangalore, India to launch a business to help build momentum around the city’s drive to ‘Say NO to plastic bags.’
She started her journey as an environmentalist 8 years ago when she and her family moved to Bangalore. She noticed lack of civic amenities in Bangalore as a huge health hazard especially for young children. The first thing I wanted to do is to curb the single use plastic bag menace and as a result I started a company called Eco Earth Bags. We make high quality, reusable 100% eco-friendly bags which sell in local stores and corporates as an alternative to plastic bags. I call my business ‘a business with a purpose'. and my purpose is to motivate and sensitize people to contribute to protecting the environment, protecting our mother earth, protecting our future.’
‘I believe that ‘minimum is maximum’ and that is the holistic approach I want everyone to adopt. I moved back to the Boston area in 2015, I have been involved with the Lexington Public School Green Team, which has been instrumental in bringing many environmentally friendly practices to the town of Lexington, including the town-wide ban of single-use plastic bags enacted in March 2018. I will continue to work in this field and try to bring many changes to help keep our planet cleaner and greener. My favorite quote is by Mahatma Gandhi - Be the change you wish to see in the world.’
